It’s not every day that a band can they performed in a wedding venue that opened its’ doors over 600 years ago! Exeter Cathedral is as impressive inside as it is outside, but its’ cavernous ceilings and preponderance of stone can make achieving a sound that’s not drowned in neverending reverb somewhat challenging. If you have ever stood in a large church, cathedral or even a cave and tried to talk above a whisper, you’ll know what we mean – you can hear your open voice echoing for a long time.
Having a band perform in this environment could result in a cacophony of sound that is indistinguishable and impossible for guests to dance to. Fortunatelly, Anthony and Helen hired HARD TO HANDLE BAND, and we are past masters at being able to achieve a great sound no matter what room we are performing in.
The lovely couple were quite specific about their requirements – they wanted a band which could play their song requests (including their first dance, “Everything I do” by Bryan Adams) and also wanted a band that could provide the focal point for their guests on the dance floor, instead of dissipating around the huge nave of the cathedral.
HARD TO HANDLE BAND pride ourselves on not just playing a broad mix of classic and contemporary multi-genre pop, rock, indie and soul, but being visually entertaining. If we wanted to be funny we would call it “stagecraft”, but it’s really just about being engaged with who we’re playing to – if your guests can see that we’re having a great time, then they will be more inclined to get themselves on the dance floor, which is what you want, isn’t it!
