The Ultimate Guide to Hiring a Wedding Band in West Yorkshire

Our venue doesn’t really have space for a band, does that mean we can’t hire you?
We find that we can easily set up in spaces a lot smaller than most other wedding bands – we are a three piece function band with a big sound but a small footprint, and can fit into areas that bands featuring more Yorkshire wedding musicians or large bands that play corporate events can’t. Also, all of our equipment is compact and designed for smaller venues, which means that not only can we perform but we will leave plenty of room on the dancefloor for your guests to bust their moves!
Do we need to work a guide for what time you will play?
We are more than happy to work with you to work out the most appropriate timings for your evening entertainment. We usually play a set of live band music before your caterers serve evening food and another afterwards, though if you find that your wedding breakfast and speeches over run or some of your guests are late arriving, timings may change.
As brides and grooms who hire wedding bands will tell you, a professional wedding band should pride themselves on being able to organise the times they play to ensure that your guests get the maximum benefit of having a live band. With this in mind, we sometimes change our set times to suit what’s happening on the evening. Nothing has to be set in stone, and our advice is this: relax, enjoy your evening and let us ensure that timings work so that there’s non-stop music, all night.
What music do Yorkshire wedding bands perform? Can I choose which songs the band will play?
Of course! One of the reasons why our playlist is so large and extensive is that we have spent years playing as a function band, learning songs that have been requested by brides, grooms and their guests. So bring it on – we love receiving song requests, especially songs that you might not expect a live band to perform. Learning and playing modern chart songs – and making them sound great – can be a challenge for some wedding function bands, but you only have to listen to some of our recordings to know that we love rocking up current chart hits and other requests.
Also do bear in mind that we are highly experienced in being able to work the room and change the music we play to suit the tastes of your guests, so don’t worry if you can’t think of any song requests – we’ll do what we do best and get that dancefloor heaving!
Do you travel outside West Yorkshire?
While looking for live wedding bands you may have found this website but you are holding your wedding reception outside Yorkshire. Though we can’t fathom why you would want to do such a thing, we are of course happy to travel to pretty much any wedding venue in England and Wales. All you have to do is get in touch and ask – you’ll find we are amendable and cost effective too.
Do you provide a real live DJ?
Absolutely yes! While some Yorkshire wedding bands like to cut corners by simply preloading a Spotify playlist, pressing play and walking away, HARD TO HANDLE provide a live DJ at no extra fee, mixing the music and taking song requests for your guests on the night. When you request a quote for wedding entertainment from a cover bands or entertainment agencies, make sure that when they say they’re providing DJ music, they are providing an actual DJ. Accept no substitutes!
My West Yorkshire venue has a sound limiter – what does this mean and does it affect the band?
Do you like Marmite? Some people love it, some people hate it. Well think of sound limiters like Marmite. They are little devices installed in the performance rooms of wedding venues which wedding bands are required to plug into as a condition of them playing live wedding entertainment. They monitor and regulate the volume at which bands can play. If the wedding band you have hired play too loud, the power to the room will be cut. Hopefully now you see why we mentioned Marmite – some bands love them, some bands hate them. But regardless of their feelings, if your venue manager tells you that they have installed a sound limiter, there is usually a good reason why (think noise abatement, local council, venue licensing, previous problems with live wedding music bands) and your band will be required to perform within the volume limit set by the sound limiter.
It’s as simple as that. Except that it’s not – quite a few Yorkshire wedding bands will flatly refuse to perform at any Yorkshire wedding venue with a sound limiter installed; some wedding bands will privately grumble and try to play at the same volume, tripping the sound limiter, stopping the music, invoking the ire of the venue manager and disappointing you and your guests.
But don’t worry if your venue has this requirement – we LOVE performing at venues with sound limiters!
