Should I hire a live band for my Stanbrook Abbey Hotel wedding?

Brides and grooms looking for entertainment for their evening wedding reception at Stanbrook Abbey in Worcestershire should consider whether the type of entertainment they are looking for will fit all the criteria required to ensure their guests spend the night on the dance floor:

  • Some specialist entertainment options such as string quartets and solo artistes may not possess a broad enough repertoire or be versatile enough to entertain guests for the 5 or 6 hours required.
  • DJs may not be able to fill the whole of St Annes’ Hall with music and lights and may seem a little “lost” in the large room.
  • The acoustics of the ballroom and Stanbrook Abbey are such that large events bands featuring brass section may sound too loud.
  • Brides and groom should consider hiring bands who have performed at Stanbrook Hall previously to ensure a quick and “stress-free” set up.

Whichever option you choose to entertain your wedding guests, it’s important to do “due diligence” – making sure that the live band you hire for your Worcestershire wedding reception is right for you. Of course, listening to the bands’ music and watching their videos is an important part of this, but finding the perfect live Worcestershire band to perform at Stanbrook Abbey is not just about saying “they sound great, let’s book them!” – all too often brides and grooms are disappointed to discover that the band they hired don’t provide a fully comprehensive service, or don’t quite measure up to their expectations in other ways.

Tips on choosing the right Worcestershire wedding band

When considering hiring a live band for a wedding, brides and grooms should always perform due diligence before hiring entertainment for their Worcestershire wedding. This should involve:

  • Reading independently verifiable reviews of bands’ performances such as Google reviews or reviews found on platforms such as Hitched . Good reviews will include details of the bands’ service, performance and recommendations from brides and grooms who have previously hired the band.
  • Reviewing examples of recent performances on the bands’ website blog. A blog should feature information such as how long the bands’ set up took, the songs they played and specific information about the booking.
  • Asking for a full written breakdown of the fee and service the band provides. This will assist in comparing the service with other bands. Professional bands offer a period of live music and some style of DJ music (either a live DJ or a Spotify playlist).
  • Requesting a copy of the bands’ terms and conditions. This document should stipulate the limits of service cancellation terms and other legal; and logistical aspects of the service offered.
  • Ascertaining that the band hold public liability insurance (PLI) and an electrical testing certificate (PAT) before agreeing hire terms. Wedding venues require suppliers to hold PLI and PAT certificates as a condition of hire. If a band does not hold either of these, the venue may refuse to allow them on site.
