August continues to be brilliant, doesn’t it. When the British weather behaves itself and does what it’s meant to do, there’s nothing better than a baking hot afternoon, chatting to friends, eating nice food, sipping your favourite beverage. And you and your friends definitely feel the benefits when you can do all this in the setting of a wedding reception, it makes the world so much nicer. At least, that’s our opinion, and we know it’s shared by Charlotte and James, who hired us to perform at their wedding reception at Goldstone Hall, Shropshire.
To put you in the picture, Goldstone Hall is one of Shropshires’ busiest wedding venues, and for good reason – set in an idyllic part of Shropshire (but then, which part isn’t?), it’s a 17th century gentlemans’ country seat, set in impressive grounds and certainly is a visual banquet. When it comes to live entertainment however, the designated room can leave some bands with heart palpitations – it’s relatively small, with low ceilings that can create problems if you have hired a function band with a large sound and lighting rig. In fact, we’re not sure how larger bands would set up in the room and leave enough space on the dance floor for their guests.
Luckily, Charlotte and James hired HARD TO HANDLE. As a three piece band, we have no problems setting up and performing in smaller spaces as all of our equipment is top-of-the-range yet compact. So at the designated time (agreed with Charlotte and James in advance), we arrived, set up our drums, guitar and bass amp, keyboard, sound system, lighting and DJ booth, performed a brief sound check and were ready for the festivities to begin. And soon enough, the guests filed into the room, ready for the arrival of James and Charlotte and the first dance which looked amazing! And then it was our turn, performing two sets of classic and contemporary live music chosen by the bride and groom with input from their guests:

A great time was had by all! Charlotte told us “thank you for being such a fantastic band at our wedding. Everyone has commented on how great you were and we have never danced that much in our lives!”
